Indian Music by Ricky Romain

Ricky Romain is a sitar player who plays Indian Classical Music and is based in the South West of England. Over the last 17 years Ricky has worked extensively with tabla player Jon Sterckx with their sitar and tabla duo Samswara. They have performed at festivals, concert halls, art centers and weddings throughout the UK. He has also been involved in a wide variety of collaborations and recordings with Classical Indian musicians and has worked with musicians from other musical and artistic genres including Jazz, Rock, Folk, World and Western Classical Music, Dance, and Movement.

Ricky has also been involved in a number of school and community arts projects ( www.rickyromain.com )  using Indian Folk and Classical music as a focus for interdisciplinary study. For the last ten years he has been an associate lecturer in Indian classical music at the University of Plymouth.

Samswara – Jon Sterckx (Tabla) & Ricky Romain (Sitar) have been regularly performing Indian music together since 2001 and were were voted ‘Best Group in South West & South Wales’ in the MTM South Asian & Ethnic Minorities Awards 2014.
They also performed at the National Celebration of British Asian Live Arts in 2008.
